Track, Cameras, and VTEC: A Day with NSX Owners Club at Curborough Sprint Course
Updated: Aug 25
Capturing the essence of automotive royalty is no ordinary day at the office. In mid-July, I was handed an assignment: Head up to the iconic Curborough Sprint Track and create as much content as humanly possible for NSX Owners Club.
With an incredible line-up of nine legendary supercars waiting for us, I knew I needed backup, so I brought my brother along to help manage some of the load and all in we had a splendid day.
The Line-up: From Analog Legends to Hybrid Hypercars
Rolling into the paddock at Curborough felt like scooting into a timeline of Honda’s finest engineering. Nine stunning cars stood side-by-side. The display bridged decades of innovation, starting from the pure, analog and original NA1 NSX all the way to the mind-bending, complex, sleek modern Acura NSX.
Our mission was clear: translate the sound, speed, and soul of these machines into high-end stills and video footage.
The Content Battle, Angles, Speed and Corrupt Cards
We spent the day chasing the perfect angles. Positioning ourselves around the sprint course to capture the cars clipping apexes, burning fuel and having a blast. I rigged up a GoPro to the NSX A1 for dynamic tracking shots...
As any photographer knows, the tech gods don’t always play nice - you don’t pack up when things go wrong; you adapt and learn...
After a good nights sleep I had a glance at the footage and one of my GoPro's suffered a catastrophic SD card corruption, chucking out a chunk of the on-board footage, resulting in stretched pixels and jittering footage - a huge disappointment on my part.
BUT you don’t pack up and sulk when things go wrong, you adapt. so I doubled down on the other footage and started the editing process.
Despite this technical setback, the final haul was something I'm incredibly proud of:
103 high-resolution images capturing the finer details and the fast
track action.
A collection of punchy short-form videos custom-built for the NSX Owners Club members to use.
From Behind the Lens to the Passenger Seat
Just when we thought the day was coming to an end, We were treated to passenger hot laps in two drastically different eras of the NSX legacy.
First up was the Acura NSX, I jumped in and instantly said send it. The relentless, instant torque from the hybrid powertrain and the advanced all-wheel-drive system pinned us to our seats. It gripped the tarmac like it was glued to it. Experiencing its sheer mechanical grip was brilliant - If you have a spare 100k you should treat yourself to one!!
Up next was the original Honda NSX NA1, Experiencing A First generation vehicle with a few modifications was delightful! The lightweight chassis, and the screaming 3L VTEC engine was a masterclass in pure driving dynamics. It is easy to see why Ayrton Senna fell in love with it.
While the absence of modern conveniences might be a downside for some, the combination of hydraulic steering and Yokohama's Advan Neova AD09 tires transformed it into a remarkably graceful machine on Curborough's track.
The Wrap Up
A massive thank you to NSX Owners Club for having us. Despite a rogue SD card trying to ruin the party, it was day of high-octane content creation. The photos and videos are now in the hands of the owners, celebrating a legendary lineage of cars that still turn heads and smash lap times.
